Areas of practice
Ian Read SC was admitted to practise in Victoria in 1989 and then practised with Galbally and O’Bryan as a solicitor advocate. He joined the Victorian Bar in 1994 practising in crime, civil, administrative law and insolvency law.
In 1998 -2000 he worked as a government solicitor advising and representing the government of Kiribati until moving to Darwin with his family. He was general counsel at the Northern Territory Legal Aid Commission for 20 years specialising in criminal trial and appellate work, taking silk in 2012. He joined the NT Bar in 2022 where he is a member of Murray Chambers.
